The Northern Ireland office of the Dementia Services Development Centre has received grants from the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety and The Atlantic Philanthropies. The grants of £1.2M, over a period of 3 years will provide a dementia centre with specific resources including education & training, consultancy, library/information services and research that aim to improve the lives of people with dementia, their carers and families, with particular emphasis on provision within Northern Ireland.
The DSDC Northern Ireland office is an operational service of the Dementia Services Development Centre, University of Stirling. The centre exists to improve peoples’ understanding and knowledge of dementia. The University of Stirling is proud of the international reputation that the Dementia Services Development Centre has grown over the last two decades and is delighted to have the opportunity of continuing to work in strong partnership with Northern Ireland Government and The Atlantic Philanthropies to support people with dementia in NI.
Our work brings us into contact with staff in health, social care, housing, voluntary, public and private sectors. We write and publish practice guides and training packages, in addition to offering consultancy and an information service about the latest thinking in dementia care. We undertake research into ways of improving the quality of life of those with dementia and their cares, and will undertake NI specific research as part of the extension of this pilot.
