Overview of the conference.
15 - 16 September 2009
Following the success of its 2nd International Conference in September 2008 at the University of Stirling, the Dementia Services Development Centre is delighted to announce dates for its 3rd International Conference: Facing the Future. The conference will take place in York, England from the 15th - 16th September 2009.
DSDC would like to invite you to be part of this conference by submitting an abstract and are currently seeking submissions for symposia speakers, poster presenters and technology demonstrators on the following subjects;
Call for abstracts deadline: Sunday 15th March 2009
- Social and cultural contexts of dementia - this theme explores how dementia is perceived, and how public policy responds to it. You may wish to share practical solutions to the problems emerging in this area
- Policy and practice in dementia care - this theme explores the latest thinking and developments in service improvement
- Non-pharmacological interventions - this theme could include worked examples of any intervention for care, including their costs and benefits
- Developing dementia research - this theme will focus on the research process and methodological innovations. We are interested in challenges presented by working in the area of dementia, as well as the outcome of studies

Dementia, Science and Medicine - this theme will be of particular interest to Geriatricians and Psychiatrists as well as General Practitioners. We are interested in papers that address diagnosis and support, developments in drug treatments and differential diagnosis screening

Citizenship was the theme for our 1st International Conference to recognise the contribution people with dementia make to society and the challenges confronting services in responding to the needs of people with dementia and their carers. This conference brought together expertise, opinion and debate from many parts of the world, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, Greece, the UK and Republic of Ireland.

The DSDC’s international conference took place in Stirling from 1–3 September 2008. This year the theme was 'Celebrating Innovation & Excellence: Making Change Happen'. The conference formed part of the University of Stirling’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
