The purpose of this service is to provide continuing professional development opportunities for managers, frontline workers and volunteers in; health; social service and housing departments; care homes; housing associations and voluntary organisations. The Training and Education team provides:
Training Services
The Centre runs a series of in-house courses and seminars throughout the year. For information on forthcoming courses please contact Maria McManus, Associate Director.
The Centre is also able to provide customised short workplace training led by experienced trainers to meet identified training needs. Key topics for workplace training courses:
- Shared assessment and community support for people with dementia and their families
- Developing a person-centred approach to the support and care of people with dementia
- Improving communication with people with dementia
- Person-focused support in care homes
- Responding to behaviour of people with dementia
- Risk issues
- Reminiscence and life story work
- Responding to people with dementia in acute settings
Education

Home Care Practice Licence (HCPL)
HCPL is a test process to validate the practice of home care workers who work in unsupervised settings and ensures that they are competent to carry out their jobs safely and well.
HCPL is appropriate for both experienced and inexperienced workers and is designed to be achievable for this diverse workforce.
The materials match well with the National Occupational Standards for Care.
