Dementia Studies at the University of Stirling

Learning more about dementia is essential for all those working in the health and social care field. The Dementia Services Development Centre offers a range of dementia studies educational opportunities via online learning to help professionals respond to the challenge of providing high quality dementia care. The courses are offered on a part-time basis and delivered through one day face-to-face introductory sessions held at the Dementia Centre followed by 10 weeks of online learning using dedicated module websites and independent study. |
We have a diverse student group representing a range of professions and academic disciplines. We ask that all our students have some experience of working with people with dementia. The courses and modules attract students from all over the UK and beyond. For example we have students from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Malta. Students value the exchange of information and learning between professions and between cultures.

Funding information
SHEFC Fee Waiver Scheme 2011/2012
The purpose of this scheme is to assist part-time students studying towards a first degree who are from lower income groups or unemployed to participate in higher education through the provision of a tuition fee waiver.

“As a consequence of doing this course I was inspired to begin a career as a Research Nurse working for the Dementias and Neurodegenerative Disease Research Network. The MSc in Dementia Studies has been invaluable to me, not only for giving me an understanding of the research process but also for increasing my awareness of ethical considerations and the challenge of capacity and consent.
