Training
The Training team provide affordable, accessible, short and distance learning courses in dementia care across the UK and internationally. We employ a person-centred philosophy of care in our training and work with a team of associates who are experienced practitioners from a range of backgrounds including care home management, nursing, social work and family caring.

Workplace-based training
Workplace–based training allows managers to tailor a specific course to the training needs of the staff team. Each course is planned in consultation with the manager so that a jointly agreed proposal with an evaluation of the impact is agreed before the training starts. We will travel to you to deliver the training course. Examples of the courses we offer include:
| Nutrition for people with dementia in care homes Aim: To assist in menu planning and the challenges of presenting meals that encourage eating and to offer practical advice. |
Dementia Awareness Aim:To differentiate dementia from other illnesses by seeing the person behind the illness and understanding behaviour and effective communication. |
Responding to Behaviour Aim: To think about what is meant by behaviour that challenges and how we respond to that behaviour. |
| Learning Disabilities And Dementia Aim: To consider how services should be delivered for people a learning disability and dementia |
Enabling Communication Aim: To understand the importance of effective communication for people with dementia and how to adopt effective strategies when communicating. |
Life Story Work Aim: To demonstrate the benefits of life story work and demonstrate practical ways of promoting techniques described. |
| Developing a person-centred approach Aim: To consider the principles underpinning a person-centred approach to dementia care and explore what this means for care practice, care planning and the care environment. |
Advocacy and people with dementia Aim: To challenge and explore myths, debates and views on dementia advocacy. |
Creative Care Planning Aim: To help participants develop care plans that recognise the uniqueness and individuality of people with dementia. |
| Rehabiliation and people with dementia Aim: To think about how rehabilitation for people with dementia can have positive outcomes in terms of quality of life and self-esteem. |
Palliative care for people with dementia Aim: To focus on the needs of people with dementia who have other painful conditions and to think about ways to support them. |
Discharge Planning Aim: To help plan ongoing support to those with dementia who are due to be charged from hospital. |

Dementia: A six-part self-study course for Health Care Assistants
Healthcare assistants are on the front line when it comes to responding to the individual with dementia in ward settings. Providing support that is person-centred presents a number of challenges. The course has been accredited by the RCN.

Dementia: A six-part self-study course for Care Home Assistants
In June 2008 the Healthcare assistant material was amended to meet the needs of care home staff. This course also combines self-study booklets with twelve group discussions led by a trained facilitator. It allows participants to have evidence to meet the knowledge requirement for Vocational Qualifications.
